Workshop: Scene-4 Making a CD
If
you've completed
the four scenes
and the links are
all correct. you
can now prepare
your project for
CD or Computer DVD
using MediaWorks'
Distribution feature.
The steps below
are for Windows-based
computers.
Requires
a CD writer and
mastering software
before proceeding;
e.g. Roxio's Easy
CD Creator®
or Toast.
Tip!
We
recommend
adding
a
Quit
button
to
the
main
menu
(Scene-4).
Otherwise,
the
viewer
must
know
ALT-F4
or
Command-Q
to
quit
the
MediaWorks
Player.
The
Quit.pct
image
(Menu
folder)
can
be
added
as
a
button.
In
the
Button
Attributes
dialog,
be
sure
to
check
Quit
for
the
Button
Type.
1.
Save
your Project (File>Save
or CTRL-S).
2.
From
Author's main menu,
select File>Make
Player.
3.
In
the Save As dialog,
choose the desktop,
give your Player
Document a name.
e.g. "EdisonProject"
(no spaces!), check
the "Share
on CD or Computer
DVD " checkbox
and enter the QuickTime
version you're using
(Figure 1).

Tip!
When sharing a
MediaWorks Player
Document, the
viewer will typically
require the version
of QuickTime used
to build the project.
To ensure your
project can viewed
by others, enter
the version of
QuickTime you
are using in the
QuickTime version
field. You may
freely distribute
the QuickTime
Installer with
your project but
must complete
Apple's
license agreement.
*
4.
After making your
settings, click
Save.
In
a few seconds, a
folder with the
new name ("EdisonProject"
or on Mac, "Distribution")
is generated on
the desktop. Navigate
to and open this
folder to find three
files:
-
EdisonProject.plr,
(your entire project
file in the form
of a single MediaWorks
Player Document)
-
Player.exe
(The MediaWorks
Player runs .plr
files)
-
Autorun.inf
(when burned to
disc, this file
automatically
launches the Player.exe
which in turn,
automatically
opens the .plr
file).
To
create an autorun
CD on Windows:
a.
Launch your CD/DVD
writing software
(not included
with MediaWorks).
b. Insert and
format a blank
CD-R or DVD-R
(disc). If desired,
give your disc
a name (11 Characters
maximum).
c. Copy the three
files created
above onto the
newly formatted
disc.
d. Copy
the QuickTime
installer to the
disc.
e. Burn the disc.
You
should now have
an autostart CD/DVD
for any Windows
computer with CD/DVD
Autoplay enabled.
If CD/DVD Autoplay
is disabled, open
the CD/DVD and double-click
the .plr file to
play. In either
case, if needed,
the QuickTime Installer
will launch. If
the installer is
not on the CD/DVD,
the viewer will
be directed to Apple's
QuickTime download
page.
