Content: Workshop Content/Photos and Music folder

1. Set MediaWorks Author preferences for how imported pictures will be handled:

Select Edit>Preferences>Picture and set the default duration to 5 seconds by clicking on the seconds field (00:00:00) and clicking the up arrow until it shows 00:05:00. Check the Picture Preferences default size to "None" and "Scale" and click OK.

Tip! You can preset compression for imported images by selecting Edit>Preferences>Compression>Picture and choosing Photo-JPEG, Best Depth, Medium. This will reduce the file size of the final movie while maintaining reasonable quality.

2. Set the frames per second for your slide show to 24 by selecting Scene>Attributes and choosing 24 from the Frames/Second pulldown menu. Click OK.

Tip! The higher the frame rate the smoother your slide show will run. If saving unrendered, select 30 fps if you're on a new computer. However, when saving rendered movies, large dimensions and high frame rates takes more time and creates bigger files.

3. Set a background color for your slide show by selecting Edit>Background Color and choosing a color (we suggest black). Click OK.

4. Locate and open the Photos folder and from the Photos folder menu, select Edit>Select All.

5. Click and drag the highlighted photos directly onto the Project window. This imports the selected files into MediaWorks Author and adjusts them based upon the settings made in Step 1.

6. Once imported, click the Sequencer icon Sequencer Tool icon on the Main Tools palette to open the Sequencer window.

7. Expand the Sequencer window to see all the timebars.

8. From Author's main menu select Edit>Select All. The timebars should all be highlighted (dark purple).

9. Click the Auto-Sequence button. Auto-Sequence button

The Sequencer window should look similar to Figure 1 below.

Tip! If the timebars extend past the right side of the Sequencer window, click on the small magnifying glass in the lower right corner and choose "x3" or higher from the popdown menu. Increasing to "x10" and maximizing the Sequencer window allows you to see up to 37 tracks over 15 minutes at one time.

10. From the main menu, select Object>Transitions.

11. In the Objects Transitions dialog (Figure 2), choose a Beginning and Ending transition and click OK.

  1. Select Scene>Export>QuickTime>Rendered
  2. In the Save dialog, give your movie a new name (if desired)
  3. Click the Options button
  4. For Video, we recommend using H.264. You MUST enter a value in the Video Settings, Frames per Second field. For Sound, we recommend choosing AAC.
  5. If your movie will be played from a web page, check Prepare for Internet Streaming and choosse Fast Start. This will allow the movie to start playing before the entire file is downloaded
  6. Click Save. Pay attention to where your movie is being saved!
  7. After a few minutes, a .mov file will be created in your specified folder location containing a single video and single audio track.
