Pre-Flight Checklist

  • Does your computer meet the minimum system requirements?
  • Are you using MediaWorks 6.1 or higher?
  • Are you using QuickTime 7 or higher?
  • Did you install QuickTime using the "Recommended Install" option?
  • Do you have a microphone connected and set to record? (optional)
  • Are your computer speakers turned on?
  • Is your monitor setting at 800 x 600 (minimum) or 1024 x 768 (recommended) at true-color (24 bit/millions)?
  • Is the Workshop Content folder on the desktop or a location you can easily access?

Conventions Used

  • Menu selections are shown with a right arrow > between the options. e.g. File>New
  • While the online workshop screenshots are from the Windows version, the steps are essentially the same for Macintosh. So, modifier keys are referenced as "CTRL/COM", where CTRL is the Windows Control Key and COM is the Macintosh COMMAND (apple) key.
  • The command OK, Enter (the Enter key) and/or Return (the Return key) are interchangeable.

Getting Started

1. Position this browser window to left side of your screen, (use ALT-TAB to switch back and forth to MediaWorks Author and this window).

2. Place the Workshop Content folder on the desktop, open it and position to the right side of your screen. Optional: To optimize screen real estate, select View as List from the Workshop Content folder menu.

3. Launch MediaWorks Author.

    • On Windows, select Start>Programs>MediaWorks>Author.
    • On Macintosh, locate and open the MediaWorks folder and double-click the Author application icon.

4. Choose New Project and when prompted to create a New Scene, click OK or press Return.

5. Position the Project window to the left side of the screen.

You are now ready to begin (Figure 1).
